Toss that thing!!

I recently learned a fun fact about the origin of the garter toss, from the Wiki:

Historically, this garter tradition relates to the belief that taking an article of the bride’s clothing would bring good luck. As this often resulted in the destruction of the bride’s dress, the tradition arose for the bride to toss articles of clothing to the guests, including the garter.

Ripping apart my dress? What!?!?  I know this garter toss tradition isn’t always followed by modern brides, but wearing a garter is such a fun way to infuse a little bit of your own personality into your wedding day garb.  It’s such a fun keepsake to have, and putting that garter on makes for cute pictures, so get one…..even if you are choosing not to toss it!!

I know many brides opt to do the sports-themed garter (I chose an Oakland A’s garter myself as a surprise to my husband!), or go with the traditional “something blue” garter, but there are tons of other great options out there!!

For the loyal Hello Kitty fans, Tarina Tarantino has created something to drool over with her Pink Head Bride Lace Garter:

Tarina Tarantino also has a gothic version of the garter for you darker Hello Kitty fans out there, the Gothic Lolita Garter:

Sew Unique Garters has an adorable Betty Boop version:

Jean M created some fun options for the animal in you:

For you Disney fanatics out there….a garter would be such a fun way to add a little bit of Disney into your day!  This one is by Garters by Gingersnap:

Garters by Gingersnap also had something for all of the biker babes out there, faux leather, watch out!!

Garters by Kristi has a fab option for the polka-dot lovers out there!

Brides can even match their wedding colors…..I think every color combination imaginable is out there, and if it isn’t, many garter makers will custom make anything, including Garters by Kristi:

Be your own movie star!!

What’s better than experiencing the moments of a lifetime during your wedding?  Getting to re-live them a few hours later!!  Same-Day Edits have been popping up on videography packages everywhere, sometimes as your final video product…..other times, as merely an add-on to the longer version of the video you will receive weeks or months later.

Daniel Boswell at DV Artistry produced a beautiful same-day edit for my clients this past weekend, Kat and Noel, and when it was debuted at the reception, applause filled the room, and it made me teary-eyed all over again.  Kat and Noel got married at St. Denis Catholic Church in Diamond Bar, followed by a stellar reception at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.  I will save my gushing about Kat and Noel for their pro-pic post (look for that in a couple weeks, it will be worth the wait!!), but for now, here is a sweet view into the first half of their day:

Another recent add-on to videography packages that I have been noticing is the concept video, a short fun video that can be shown during the reception or rehearsal dinner.  This is usually a spoof of a movie or TV show, scripted and conceptualized to incorporate the bride and groom, and even the bridal party!  The amazing team at Red 5 Studios has been producing a few that could be the envy of couples everywhere…here are a couple of my favorites!

Groom’s Club (grooms should get to have a little fun….SOMETIMES):

more about “Groom’s Club on Vimeo“, posted with vodpod

I also had to include one of Red 5 Studios’ most recent HILARIOUS concept videos, a spoof on my favorite show, The Office.  Watching this one made me want to have another wedding of my own, just so I could sit 150 people down and show my own version of this rockin’ video!!:

**Andrea and Bob**

I met Andrea and Bob over coffee back in February and when they booked on the spot, I was SO thrilled.  Andrea had already hired some amazing vendors, and I felt super lucky to be added on as part of her “dream team.”  Andrea and Bob were so at ease with each other…..I knew their wedding would express the love that had been growing between them over the last 10 years.

They chose the ever-beautiful Rancho Sol Del Pacifico as the perfect backdrop for their day, and the weather gods blessed them with the most clear day I’ve witnessed up in Malibu, to date.  Here are some of my favorites shots from their special day, taken by the fabulous husband/wife team over at Pix of Life, Mike and Gina Goldman.

Andrea’s bridal look exuded the elegance of “Old Hollywood,” with hair and makeup done by the talented, Natalie Buketov, and a beautiful dress by La Sposa!!

Andrea’s fab accessories, arranged on the super-swanky bed found in Rancho’s bridal suite!

Moments after the first look, those lovebirds didn’t even notice the camera!  Andrea’s friend, Rebecca Chapman of Rebecca’s Bloomers , handled all of the florals, including her gorgeous bouquet!

The ceremony setup, you couldn’t ask for a better backdrop than that breathtaking view!  Andrea made sweet reserved signs to make sure that the VIPS had the best seats on the house!

I love the look of guests holding parasols during the ceremony, it makes for such fun pictures!  In addition to keeping the guests in the shade, Andrea also wanted to make sure that the guests had refreshments prior to being seated, had fans to keep cool, and offered her German guests a translation of the wedding ceremony!

Finally coming down the aisle to meet her groom!!  This was the happiest, proudest papa I had ever met, the joy he had in his face, for his daughter, literally brought tears to my eyes.

The newleyweds….giddy Andrea and cool-as-a-cucumber Bob, such a perfect match made in heaven!

One of the many reasons to book at Rancho….you can’t beat that sunset view!!

Andrea’s wedding theme was citrus, infused with hot pink, so we had the limes/oranges/lemons popping up all over the place!  It made for a perfect summery and fun feel, and made for amazingly vibrant photos!

Andrea’s favors, which doubled as her escort cards, were adorable jars of homemade marmalade, made with Oma’s (grandma in German) recipe.  This was a touching way to have Oma at the wedding, since the distance was too far for her to travel.

I am a sucker for festive lighting….the twinkle lights up the palm trees and colorful paper lanterns all came as part of the venue package!

One of the many reasons a German wedding is fantabulous….the moment when the bride and groom have to take off their shoes for the traditional wedding game!  Another tradition they kept true to was the creation of a “wedding newspaper”, a binded book of pictures and tidbits on the bride and groom, that is sold during the reception for honeymoon money….those things sold like hotcakes!!

And finally, we end with a great shot of the bride and groom toasting to their happiness!

Please feel free to visit Pix of Life’s blog for more shots of this amazingly fun wedding!

A special thank you to the other talented vendors who were a part of this “Dream Team,”: Truly Yours Catering, and Today’s the Day Videography (Joe, I always adore working with you!!).

Andrea and Bob:  I had such a blast with you guys on your wedding day!!  Your spirit  and energy are intoxicating, and you have made me feel like a friend during this entire planning process..  It was an honor to be a part of your lives for this past year and I hope you keep in touch!!
