New school year, new look!

Every year growing up, the last two weeks of August always consisted of two things.  A 2-hour trek to Target to buy a brand new backpack and school supplies, and a trip to the hair salon for a new look.

For those of you who have met me, you have probably gotten to see my hair on the longest state it’s ever been.  I started growing it out for my own wedding, then decided to keep it long for a Lauren’s wedding this past May.  I really did start to love it, although I usually ended up throwing it up in a messy ponytail, because I have no patience for hair styling.   The thing with me and my hair is, I get bored really fast.

I decided that going into the new school year (and yes, I’m quite aware I am no longer a student, nor am I a teacher), I would revisit the traditions of years past and treat myself to a whole new look.  I wanted to go for something chic and versatile, with little maintenence, that still maintained a sense of professionalism.  I  took the liberty of assuming that my clients didn’t want me showing up to coordinate their elegant weddings in a mohawk!!

So we went from this, the old look:

To this look…..”the Gwenyth bob”:

It’s day 3 of the new bob and I’m loving it!!  A big shout-out to my stylist, Rigo Ortiz at Studio 26 (who also does amazing wedding hair!), for rocking the shears!!

**Kadidja and Thomas**

This post will tie up the trifecta of weddings weekends I had in a row before I left for my trip!!

Kadidja and Thomas got married on the ever-popular 08/08/08.  The reasoning behind the couple picking  this special date was so touching, it was the not only the day that her brother had gotten married, but also her grandparents.  What a beautiful way to pass on a family tradition!  Kadidja was planning her wedding from out of state, so she knew it would be a bit more of a challenge, but her mom and maid-of-honor became her eyes and ears on the West Coast!  Kadidja told me from the start that she planned on DIY-ing most of her details, which I of course LOVED to hear!

Sarah Chen, once again, knocked it out of the park with her photography talent and skills…..below are some of my favorite shots of the day:

It pays to have friends with talent!  Kadidja’s close friends did her hair and makeup…and transformed her into a GORGEOUS blushing bride!

I adore surprising pops of color under the dress!!  How gorgeous are these Nine West shoes?

I loved seeing her embroidered hanky, commemorating the day….what a sweet heirloom to be able to pass on to your kids one day!

Once again, Kristin from The Treasured Petal did not disappoint….this bouquet is drool-worthy, topped off with the perfect touch of bling!

Kadidja snuck in a moment after getting ready to read Thomas’ love letter!

I love this shot of Thomas as he patiently awaited his beautiful bride for their first look, followed by the glee in both of their faces when they finally got to see each other!

The stunning couple!

And then we got to see those shoes!

If that isn’t a proud papa, I don’t know what is!

Sarah was able to sneak in some fun bridal party shots after the wedding!

Don’t the gals look fab in their Anne Taylor Celebrations dresses?

One of my absolute favorite shots of the day….set at a nearby cliff with a breathtaking view!

From the start, Kadidja knew she somehow wanted to incorporate a green apple theme into the reception….it fit in perfectly with her green, brown, ivory and gold color scheme!!

Her placecards, another one of Kadidja’s DIY labors of love:

The tablescapes came together SO beautifully, with gorgeous pintuck linens from Cloth Connection, Kristin’s spectacular centerpieces, gold chargers, gold votives,  Kadidja’s DIY apple placecards, menus and table numbers!  She even made sweet “reserved seating” signs for the VIPs!   If you look closely, you can take a peek at her memory “table” that we set up around the cozy fireplace!

The scrumptious cake from Torrance Bakery, sitting atop a cake stand that Kadidja and Thomas created!!

Sealing off the night with a kiss!

Please visit Sarah Chen’s blog for even more beautiful pictures of Kadidja and Thomas’ day!!

Kadidja and Thomas: It was an honor to be a part of your beautiful day, the love and intimacy that was felt throughout your entire event was touching and inspiring!  You are two of the most genuine people I’ve ever gotten the pleasure to meet.  K – I will miss our back-and-forth novels to each other, so please make sure you keep in touch from Montana!

**LeeAnn and Geoff**

I am so excited to finally get to blog LeeAnn and Geoff’s wedding!!  LeeAnn contacted me back in January for her 08/02 wedding at the Ayres Hotel in Hawthorne.  We actually had our initial consult over the phone, since she was/is temporarily misplaced in Oregon (Pham, So Cal is waiting for you to come back with open arms!!).  LeeAnn is one of those people who just feels familiar and like an old pal immediately, so within moments, I felt like I was talking to a long lost friend,   I was so honored that she emailed me to book me immediately following our hour long phone call!!

The day turned out as smooth as they come.   Not only did Jason Tran take some ridiculously amazing pictures (if these aren’t magazine-worthy, I don’t know what is!!), but LeeAnn was so thoughtful in her planning, no detail was left unturned.  Here are some of my favorites of their special day!!

LeeAnn’s Monique Lhuillier dress, I wouldn’t expect anything less from this uber-stylish gal!

Her accessories were to DIE for….a chic Twigs and Honey hairpiece, a stunning Haute Bride bracelet look-alike, some jealousy-inducing Stuart Weitzman shoes, and her delicate drop veil!!

A peek at LeeAnn’s darling bouquet….a perfect romantic mix of roses, gardenia, and orchids.  I’d expect nothing less from the super-talented florist, Kristin from The Treasuerd Petal!  This shot was captured by one of the rockstar second shooters of the day, Natalie Williams

I love giving the bride and groom some blank notecards to write their last minute thoughts to their soon-to-be-spouse, it’s such a precious old-fashioned keepsake to have after the wedding!  Jason wonderfully captured that amazing moment when Geoff got to read LeeAnn’s sweet note.

I loved their “first look” moment and the slew of vogue shots that followed!!

The courtyard ceremony was captured beautifully, if you look closely, you can see the chandeliers that we hung from the trees to give the ceremony that glamorous edge!

One of the best reasons just to have a wedding at the Ayres…..that staircase is magical!

Some of the fab reception details!  Gorgeous tall and short centerpieces done by Kristin from The Treasured Petal,  tasty cake from Torrance Bakery, and the sparkly crystal cake toppers done by yours truly!   The truffle favors they gave out were diligently wrapped and ribboned by the entire family the week of the wedding…..even LeeAnn’s brother chipped in hours of Martha Stewart-like manual labor!!

More fab details, this shot captured by rockstar second shooter, Natalie Williams!!  LeeAnn initially claimed to me to “not be the crafty type,” yet she labored over the programs, menus, petal cones, escort cards, and card box.  Looks like she is knows how to manipulate scissors, glue and cardstock better than she thinks!!

A perfect moment after the cake cutting!

And to end the series….a random romantic moment captured perfectly:

Special thanks to my friend Anne for stepping in as my assistant that day, I am indebted to you!!  Please check out Jason Tran’s and Natalie Williams’ blogs for more outstanding pictures!!

LeeAnn and Geoff: I was so incredibly happy to be a part of your day, the love between you two is endless and incredibly romantic!!  Pham, I actually got teary-eyed when you walked down the aisle because during the whole planning process, I never considered you just a client, but more so a friend.   I can’t wait until you two move back into “civilization,” and you can actually shop again!!  I will look forward to hanging with you then, in the meantime, see you on FP!!

**Amaree and Erik**

I am so excited to come back from my trip to pro pics of a few of my recent weddings, it’s like Christmas came early!!

I met Amaree and Erik back in February, and I immediately fell in love with their calm and laid-back spirit.  Amaree was so easy-going, that I knew she wasn’t going to let anything damper her spirit on her wedding day…… and she didn’t, she was all smiles, all day!!  Erik was like a giddy schoolboy, it brought me great joy just to be around them on their special day.  Here are a few of my favorite shots, taken by the ever-talented, Sarah Chen:

The requisite hanging dress shot, I love the modern, yet neutral backdrop!

Her gorgeous shoes……hellloooo jealousy!!

Nancie Rooney from Face the Makeup gave Amaree that perfect, blushing bride look!

Erik, not to be outdone in the “getting ready” shots, got some fun ones in during his appointment at The Shave, in Beverly Hills.  More guys should be pampered like this on their wedding day, you only get to do it once!!!

And before we knew it, it was time for their first look…..Greystone Mansion provided such a perfect backdrop for their pictures, which were taken pre-ceremony all over the grounds:

We also had time for some bridal party shots before the ceremony.  The bridesmaids looked “pretty in pink” in their Melissa Sweet dresses:

Ceremony time!!  You can see where Amaree gets her warm and never-ending smile:

I loved how Amaree and Erik looked at each other during their vows, the emotion was so strong and touching!!

The guests did such a great job with the recessional bubbles, it made the moment so fun and whimsical!

The pink, cream, and green palette that Amaree had in mind was perfectly executed at The Victorian:

Amaree DIY’d some gorgeous details, like the menus and the wine charms/placecards:

She was even inspired by Martha Stewart and created a mini “Eat, Drink and Be Married” banner for the cake room!

And one of my favorite additions to every wedding, the late night snack.  Guests were chomping at the bit to bite into these fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, and washed them down with the adorable milk shots!

Please feel free to visit Sarah’s blog for more of the amazing pictures she captured that day!

Amaree and Erik: Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your day, it was like something straight out of a movie!!  I hope I can evoke your happy nature every time I need a little pick-me-up!  I wish you two so much continued happiness!!
