Can’t a girl find a cupcake in this city?

The answer is yes….in droves.  The bigger question, however, is where can you find the BEST one?  That is way too subjective of a topic to even attempt to broach, but here are a few of your options:

Sprinkles Cupcakes – The Mothership (or at least the ones that started it all), located in Beverly Hills or Newport Beach.  With 22 flavors to choose from (12 on any given day), aside from your typical Vanilla or Chocolate, you can select from delectable flavors like Lemon Coconut, Peanut Butter Chip, or Red Velvet.  At $3.25 a pop ($36 a dozen), many say it’s worth it:

Yummy Cupcakes – located in Burbank and Santa Monica .  Their cupcakes come in three sizes: Mini ($1.25-$1.50 each and must be pre-ordered in dozens), Classic ($2.50-$3.25 each), or Jumbo ($4.75-$5.50 each, but must be ordered in advance).  They rotate 18 of their 133 flavors on a daily basis,  and with flavors like Happy Day, Fluffernutter, and Monkey love….can you really go wrong?

They also offer Cupcakes on a Stick….and let’s face it, what food doesn’t taste better when it’s on a stick?

Vanilla Bake Shop – located in Santa Monica.  They rotate their 20 flavors daily, with the classics like Black & White and Mom’s Birthday Cake offered every day.  Their cupcakes are $3.25 a pop, or they offer adorable little Cupcake Babies at 3 for $5.   I’ve had their Strawberries and Cream cupcake, pictured below, and I sometimes have dreams about it…..good dreams.

Crumbs Bake Shop – This Manhattan transplant is located in Beverly Hills.  These are some of the biggest cupcakes I’ve seen at any bakery, their prices range from $2.95 – $3.75 depending on the flavor.    They rotate through over 30 flavors….two of which are throwbacks to our childhood, Twinkie and Hostess Cupcake:

My Little Cupcakes – located in Studio City.  Their $3 cupcakes rotate through 20 different flavors with heavenly sounding names like Banana Nut, Smores and Lemon Meringue.  They also sell mini versions of all of their flavors, with the price ranging from $1 – $1.50 depending on the flavor.

Leda’s Bake Shop – located in Studio City.  They claim to be the original “mini-cupcake” inventors, and they really know how to make those suckers look cute.  They offer 15 flavors, $3 for the regular cupcakes and $1.50 for the mini versions.  You can even add custom letters (perfect for wedding cupcakes!!) for an additional $.50 a cupcake.

Auntie Em’s – based in Eagle Rock.  Some say that this is arguably the best Red Velvet in town, although they are also known for their Carrot Cake cupcakes.  They offer regular cupcakes at $3.50 and mini versions for $1.50.

SusieCakes – locations in Brentwood, Calabasas and Newport Beach.  They offer 10 classic flavors at $3 each and also offer mini versions, although the minimum order on the miniatures is 5 dozen.  Their spin on the cupcakes is that they are frosting-filled….and if their cupcakes are anything like their scrumptious cakes, they are worth every penny!!

Dots Cupcakes – located in Pasadena.  They rotate their 25 flavors only 3 times a week, so you have a better shot at being able to order some of your favorites, like their Apple Pie, or Chunky Banana.  They price their cupcakes at $2.75 for the regular size and $1.25 for the mini, and they will also add a decorative flower on top for an additional $1.

Buttercake Bakery – located in West LA.  You will want to try this place for a more basic, but still tasty cupcake, and for one of the better bargains in town.  They don’t look as fancy as Sprinkles, or as huge as Crumbs, but at $2 a pop ($.75 for mini versions), who can argue?
