**Lauren and Simon**

Another fabulous wedding to add to the mix!  I met Lauren back in November, when she shared her wedding vision  with me that included a beautiful church ceremony (St. Monica’s), followed by a warm Italian villa feel reception at the Bel Air Bay Club, overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean.   She wanted to infuse the romance of Italy into her wedding with her colors, flowers, family-style dinner service, and mini limoncello bottle favors, and in doing so, she treated her guests to a mini-vacation for the evening.  Without further ado, below are some of my favorite shots of the day, by the fabulous Dave Richards!

The dashing groom, Simon, and the beautiful bride!  I absolutely loved her flowy dress and the shrug she wore over it was perfection!

The very chic bridesmaids, clad in Priscilla of Boston dresses, along with their dashing Aussie groomsmen!

The bride’s all ivory bouquet filled with gardenias, orchids, hundrangea and callas, and the bridesmaids’ bouquets, with their cornflower blue hydrangea pop of color!

Some of the ceremony elements, which went along perfectly with the historic feel of the church.

Sealed with a kiss!

And now, on to the reception…..the escort card table with it’s AMAZINGLY huge and striking floral display by Greenleaf Studio, the in-house floral designer at the BABC.

A great table shot, with the sheer champagne overlays from La Tavola and  warm floral centerpieces.

A close-up of the yummy centerpieces with the sweet touches of kumquats, and the menus accented by a sprig of greenery.  This shot was taken by Dave’s fab second shooter, Adrienne Gunde:

The adorably sweet mini bottles of limoncello were a huge hit as the favors:

Their drool-worthy dessert table, done by none other than Vanilla Bake Shop!

Please visit Dave Richards’ blog  and Adrienne Gund’s blog for more pictures of this beautiful wedding!

Lauren and Simon – It was such a pleasure working with you on your wedding……it came together magically and I hope it was a day you will never forget!  Seeing your “Time of My Life” last dance moment brought back memories for me from my own wedding….I loved it!!

Garden party love!!

I don’t entertain much…..I’m way too much of a neurotic “Martha Stewart” perfectionist, so even the smallest soiree always takes a huge amount of planning on my part.    The instant I suggest a BBQ or get-together at my house, I’m already agonizing over what menu to serve, what color scheme to use, what playlist to create…..which is why, in a typical year, I maybe host 4 parties total.   We decided one of this year’s family get-togethers would be a small “garden party” themed BBQ in honor of a holiday that should really happen every day…….Mother’s Day.

Below are a few pics shot by the hubs……please excuse the shadows, it turns out that shooting pictures at high-noon under a trellis, makes for weird shadowy shots.

It’s amazing what a few tin pails from the dollar section at Target, a flat of wheatgrass and a few bundles of gerber daisies can turn into!!

I’ve had these Martha Stewart paper eyelet lanterns sitting around for a while and I was SO excited to finally have a use for them!!

And finally, I’ll close with a TOTALLY faked shot me manning the BBQ…..I can cook, I can bake, but I’m a sad excuse for a grill-master, which is why the duties were actually handed off to the hubs and my brother!

Mom and Patti, you are both so worth the weekend of work it took to put this shin-dig together……..we adore you both and couldn’t thank you enough for all the little (and big) things you constantly do for us both.

Dress up your votives

It’s common knowledge that adding votives, especially tons of votives, adds a gorgeous element to any event space.  But you can take it one step further and embellish your votives to fit into your specific event design!   Anything from a simple ribbon trim, to a dazzling hand-painted job can take your tablescapes to the next level, and best of all of these ideas below can easily be DIY’d!

For a rustic or fall-themed wedding, these cornhusk votives from Martha Stewart would be a perfect addition to the decor:

Another great idea for a fall/rustic wedding is the cinnamon-stick embellished votive, from the DIY network:

The Fussy Designer even has a template for her gorgeous printed vellum wrapped votives:

Cursive Design should inspire some amazing handpainted votives:

Crotchet votives from Protovert, which can just as easily be done with lace or eyelet fabric for a different look and feel:

These votives from Your Wedding Company are fancied up with a bit of pearl trim:

And lastly, one of my favorite glam looks, a rhinestone-trimmed votive by one of new favorite finds, Flowers by Mars:

I heart you, Wordle.

One of my newest clients, Jessi, turned me on to the world of Wordle, and I am certifiably addicted.  It is a brilliant new application, that can turn any series of words into a “word cloud,” giving more size/weight to the words you use more often in the inputted series.  You can generate hundreds of random combinations of fonts, colors and layouts…..so click the “Randomize” button to your heart’s content until you see something you are happy with!!

I used it to create what could have been a Save-the-Date for our own wedding and I am SO sad I didn’t know about this back then!

You could even input your vows, to create the perfect program cover (this one taken from Wordle’s fabulous gallery):

Wordle can even use a blog (or any URL) to capture words and create a random world cloud….this one was created from my own blog!

But the best part of Wordle??  It’s absolutely free and you can save your creation for your own personal use.  So head on over there and see what you come up with!!
